Average at best food. Horrible customer service, our office used to order twice a month on Friday but we have since stopped as they were constantly messing up our orders. I've seen several reviews mentioning fresh food, but they must be going to a different restaurant, egg rolls are usually dripping in grease and the rice is "clumpy" for lack of a better term. Stay away!!!

Agree with Jake, horrible experience at around the same time he went for dinner. Food took over an hour for 4 people. 4 tables left the restaurant while waiting for food. The ten yr old boy was the best employee in the restaurant, crazy! Unfortunately Michigan Shitty has limited food choices for Chinese food.

This place has by far the best Chinese food I've ever had. The building itself looks a little shady on the outside, but inside is nice. The people are super friendly and the food is amazing.

We have been coming to Gourmet House for the last year or so. The food is awesome! Our favorite dishes are the Chicken with Garlic Sauce. Simply the best flavor anywhere. Unique to Gourmet House is the way it is prepared and the exceptional taste. We have tried this at other Chinese restaurants and it just doesn't measure up to the quality and taste here. Also, the Pan Fried Dumplings are to die for. The taste is superb and the fact that there are 8 of them included with an order makes it a great value! While the exterior of the building looks a little bit disheveled, the interior is pretty nice, although the bathrooms could use some much needed cleaning and/or updating. The staff is kind of interesting. There are a couple of servers that are quite good and very responsive. On the other hand, there are a couple that are not very customer centric and give the impression that you are disturbing them. But, it doesn't matter. Go for the tasty food and you won't be disappointed!

Awful! Veggie Mei Fun and Shrimp with snow peas had zero flavor. On the plus side they delivered to our hotel room on W. Dunes Hwy.

In my top 5 Chinese restaurants. The portions are very large for a reasonable price, and everything that I have tried was at least good. The crispy garlic chicken, dumplings, fried rice, and eggrolls are superb. The servers are friendly and the decor adds abidance. From outside the place looks run-down but inside it is pretty cute. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area. Actually, it's worth going out of your way for.

smells delicious when you walk in, i just think it's a little unprofessional to have your children (age 10-12) taking your order. The little boy was sneezing all over the place and wiping his nose with his shirt, i was pretty disgusted.

Inexpensive below average Chinese food, free parking, average service, etc. Some friends brought me four times there for lunch.

This is the first review I've ever written on Yelp. I just had a beyond horrible experience at this place and feel the need to warn potential customers of how awful this place really is. (Please note, this was my first [and only] experience here). I came in on a Monday night at about 7:30pm. There were two tables dining in the restaurant: one with 4 people, and one with a solo diner. There were also 3-4 people waiting for their carry out orders. I walked up to the counter and asked if I could place a carry-out order. The owner/manager, while attempting to walk away, grunted at me and directed me to what appeared a 10 year old boy to take my order (who was probably the best employee at the restaurant). I ordered a very, very simple order: one shrimp egg roll, and an order of empress chicken with white rice. Then, I proceeded to wait for my order. And wait. And wait. Several other people came in to pick up their carry out orders and found out that despite giving their order over the phone and receiving confirmation, their orders were never entered and the kitchen hadn't even started to prepare their orders (despite calling 30 minutes earlier). These people became visibly angry. The woman who was giving out orders waited 35 minutes to check with me to see what I ordered. I proceeded to tell her. 10 minutes later, she came out and asked me again. I repeated my order again. She brought a receipt, which clearly was not mine -- orange beef and short-ribs and rangoon -- and asked if it was mine. I firmly told her no, not even close. She then brought a menu and asked me to re-order so she could check on my food. 45 minutes into this obnoxious ordeal, she came back out to re-enter my order. I asked her if my food had started to be prepared. She said no. At that point, I asked for my money back and she half-assed apologized to me for the situation. The owner came out and also gave me a half-ass apology. The sad thing is, had the offered to comp my meal or throw in something extra, I likely would have stayed. To sum this up: I waited 45 minutes after placing a carry out order to be told that I needed to re-order because they lost my order and hadn't even started preparing my food. Several other frustrated people who were there to pick up to-go orders ended up waiting 45 minutes for the same situation. One woman said she drove from 30 minutes away. Me personally: I waited 45 minutes after my 90 minute commute home from Chicago. All I wanted was dinner. This all happened despite this place being not even remotely busy. Absolutely ridiculous. Terrible service. Beyond horribly run. The one time I go there to try the food, they can't even screw the order up and give me some form of incorrect food. I will absolutely never be back under any circumstances.

Best mangolian beef and Kung Pao I tasted. This is our first time (driving thru town). Atmosphere was nice cafe style but chilly inside due to cold weather. They sat us next to a local cop. He was a pleasure to talk to. Happy guy ! I asked him what's good and he said he eats here every day. It's allll good. And he was right ! After we had our soup and meals we ordered special house fried rice to split. Tasted yummy. Could just keep eating.. Lol

Fun to try out but the food was average compared to any other Chinese place. The sesame chicken was very good but everything else was mostly bland. The waitress was ok. She wasn't bad but not assertive either.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
